World University Championships Canoe Sports 2024 presented in Montemor-o-Velho

The 2024 FISU World University Canoe Sports Championships was presented this Wednesday at the Torre do Centro Náutico in Montemor-o-Velho.

In the final countdown to the 2024 World University Canoeing Championships, the various personalities involved in organizing and promoting the event were present this Wednesday at the Torre do Centro Náutico in Montemor-o-Velho to make the official presentation of the event.

From August 21st to 24th, Portugal will be the center of university canoeing at world level, in an event that will bring together 250 participants from 24 countries, competing in the speed and marathon races. Around 70 volunteers will also be involved in the organization.

Present at the press conference were Ricardo Nora, President of the Organizing Committee and of FADU Portugal University Sports, as well as representatives of the event’s institutional partners, such as Ricardo Machado, Vice-President of the Portuguese Canoeing Federation, Décio Matias, Councillor of Montemor-o-Velho City Council, Filipa Godinho, Pro-Dean of the University of Coimbra and also Diogo Lopes, Vice-President of the Coimbra Academic Association.

For Ricardo Nora, organizing this competition in Portugal “has a very special meaning,” he said. “More and more, university sports are bringing joy and pride to Portuguese sport, and this event is no exception.”

Nora also confirmed the presence of the Secretary of State for Sport, Pedro Dias, at the Opening Ceremony, scheduled for August 20, at 8 pm, at Montemor-o-Velho Castle.

The president of the Organizing Committee also thanked the partners involved for their support, saying they were “fundamental to the organization of this event.”

With just 10 days to go until the start of the competition, the Organizing Committee and all the partners involved in the organization have shown themselves to be highly committed to providing an event of excellence for all the participants, guaranteeing the quality in the organization of international events that has been seen in the past by the Academic University Sports Federation.
